These don’t happen very often, but it is always nice to see a sale, especially of a large print, on Fine Art America. Yesterday it was a 36 inch x 21 inch glossy canvas of my images of the Canadian Falls at Niagara. I was walking on the Canadian side of the waterfall, and there is almost always a rainbow there and I waited until the tourist boat was just at the end of the rainbow. It was a single shot, but the high pixel count of the Sony makes it easy to make a large more panoramic shape out of the image. I did all the processing in Lightroom – no photoshop on this one, and tried to increase the focus on the boat by lightening and sharpening this area.
Just for interest, here is the original out of the camera:
You can see the lightening of the right hand side and the work on the boat itself to increase clarity etc. Lightroom has some pretty powerful tools these days!
This particular sale gave me a profit of $85 using the pricing I described earlier in a blog post.
What I’m also trying this time is Facebook advertizing. I posted this announcement on my Backyard Stock Photos Facebook page and it got quite a number of views among my friends and Facebook offered a trial of their advertizing with a free $30 credit. Why not, I thought! I used the $30 for 7 days worth of promotion to see if someone feels inspired enough to buy one of my images. It will be interesting to see the FAA stats next weekend to see how many people actually looked at the image on the site.
